Containerised, portable, anywhere you can run containers.

Every Pwas project — Framework, Orchestrator, Client, microservices — lives in its own isolated network, with dedicated ports and volumes. The same stack, wherever you put it.

how it deploys

One project, one isolated stack.

Pwas CLI creates a complete per-project environment — its own network, generated secrets, automatically assigned ports. The same mechanism works identically locally, on-premise or on a cloud cluster: what changes is where you run the start command, not how the project is structured. It's why "it works on my machine" stops being a problematic sentence.

from nothing to production

What happens, in order.

The path is identical across every operating mode: only the target environment changes.

  1. 01

    Project creation

One command generates the complete structure: service composition, environment variables, initial configuration, secrets and ports assigned automatically based on existing projects. No manual assembly of networks and volumes.

  2. 02

    Development environment

The stack starts locally with one command and behaves exactly as it will in production, because it is the same stack. Differences are limited to sizing and configuration, not architecture.

  3. 03

    Building the production image

A multi-stage build produces the production-ready image, from shared code or fully isolated per project, with optional publication to your image registry.

  4. 04

    Going live

The image runs in your target environment — virtual machine, container orchestrator, managed cloud — with your release procedures and your monitoring tools.

  5. 05

    Updates

A runtime update is a new image. Because the configuration describing your domain is separate from the image, updating doesn't overwrite your rules or require redoing customisations.

deployment options

The same stack, wherever it has to run.

Containers, network and volumes per project: the choice between cloud, on-premise and hybrid stays reversible.

The choices made at the start.

Cloud, on-premise or hybrid: how the decision really gets made

The decision is rarely technical, and it's useful to recognise that immediately.

European cloud is the default where there are no particular constraints: it costs less to run, elasticity is immediate and it doesn't tie up your infrastructure team. It suits most projects, including many applications handling ordinary personal data.

On-premise becomes the choice where contractual or regulatory data residency constraints exist, where integration with systems that never leave the corporate network would otherwise be awkward, or where an infrastructure team already exists and prefers to keep everything in-house. It's frequent in healthcare, public sector, finance and utilities.

Hybrid is often the best compromise where a customer- or citizen-facing portal exists: the public part on cloud, the application core and sensitive data on site, with a controlled channel between them.

What to verify during evaluation is that the choice stays reversible, because constraints change. Here it is, because there are no dependencies on one provider's managed services.

Separate environments, and why they're needed anyway

A serious project has at least two environments: one in production and one where changes are verified before being applied. It sounds obvious and in practice it's where many projects economise, with predictable consequences.

Because every project is an isolated environment with its own network, volumes and ports, creating a second environment is an ordinary operation, not a parallel infrastructure to design. The configuration describing the domain is versioned like any document, so promoting a change from the verification environment to production is a controlled step and not a manual intervention.

Where data separation is a requirement, the verification environment works on anonymised or synthetic data: that too is a choice to make deliberately at the start, because building a usable test dataset afterwards is harder than it sounds.

frequently asked

Hosting: the specific questions.

Do we need Kubernetes?
Not to start: an environment that can run containers is enough and many projects stay on that setup. An orchestrator becomes useful when you need high availability, zero-downtime updates or horizontal scaling. The choice is made against your continuity requirements, not as a prerequisite.
Can we use our own image registry and release pipeline?
Yes. The build produces standard images you can publish to your registry and release with your own procedures. There's no proprietary console the release must pass through, which is also what lets your team work with the tools it already knows.
How do backups work?
With the standard procedures of the relational database and the container volumes, integrated into your existing policies. Restoring an environment completely means data plus configuration, both in ordinary, versionable formats.
What resources are needed, roughly?
Sizing depends on volumes, concurrent users and automation load, and is established during the project against your real numbers. The runtime is compact by construction — few containers, no mandatory ecosystem of ancillary services — which makes the starting point smaller than you'd expect from an application platform.
Do you run it or do we?
Both configurations are workable, as is operation by an infrastructure partner of yours. Because there's no exotic technology in the stack, a competent infrastructure team works with what it already knows. The choice is made on where you prefer operational responsibility to sit.
