Where and how your declarative runtime runs.

European cloud, on-premise or hybrid: Pwas is designed to stay compact and portable, not to tie you to specific infrastructure or a particular cloud provider.

the principle

A compact runtime, not a heavy platform.

Framework, Orchestrator and Client each run in their own container, with per-project isolated networks — no dependency on a specific cloud, no vendor lock-in on the underlying infrastructure. That choice has one precise practical consequence: the same application runs identically on a developer's laptop, in your server room and on a managed cluster, because what changes is where you run the start command, not how the project is built.

how it runs

Every project an isolated, reproducible environment.

The same configuration in staging and in production, on European cloud, on-premise or in a hybrid setup.

areas

Four areas, one infrastructure.

Each area covers a distinct operational concern, with the same runtime underneath.

the questions that come first

IT's three questions, before the project even starts.

In any serious evaluation these arrive within the first ten minutes. The answers are here.

"What exactly do we have to run?"

A typical Pwas project consists of a few containerised components: the interpreted backend, the client that generates interfaces, the orchestrator when automation is needed, one or more microservices when dedicated processing is needed, and a standard relational database.

There's no cluster of products to install and no ecosystem of proprietary dependencies. The minimum requirement is an environment that can run containers: a virtual machine with Docker is enough to start, a container orchestrator is the natural choice when you need high availability and horizontal scaling.

That's also why installation in your own server room isn't a reduced version of the product: it's exactly the same software, running elsewhere.

"Where does our data end up?"

Where you decide, and the decision is a deployment configuration rather than a product choice. The three modes that cover almost every case are: European cloud managed by us or by you, on-premise in your own infrastructure, and hybrid — typically with the outward-facing part on cloud and the application core on site.

The choice stays reversible: because the project is containerised and the database is standard relational, moving it means moving containers and data, not redesigning the application. It's worth verifying explicitly during evaluation, because it's a real difference from platforms whose operation depends on one provider's managed services.

Where a project involves language models, the model's location is a separate decision that must be taken explicitly, including options that keep processing within a perimeter you control.

"Who runs it in production?"

It depends how you want to set it up, and all three configurations are workable.

  • Managed by us, on European cloud: we handle it, under agreed service levels. The choice for those without, or unwilling to commit, an infrastructure team.
  • Managed by you, with our support: your team operates the infrastructure, we work on the application. Frequent in organisations that already have a capability and perimeter constraints.
  • Managed by a partner: your usual infrastructure provider operates the stack. Because there's no exotic technology, a competent infrastructure team works with what it already knows.

In all three cases, application monitoring, log collection and backups integrate with the tools you already use instead of requiring a dedicated console.

frequently asked

Infrastructure: the specific questions.

Do we need a Kubernetes cluster?
No, not to start. An environment that can run containers is enough, and many projects stay on that configuration for their whole life. A container orchestrator becomes the natural choice when you need high availability, zero-downtime updates or horizontal scaling under variable load. It's a decision made against your real requirements, not a prerequisite.
Which database does it use?
A standard relational database, queryable with common tools. It's a deliberate choice: it means your data stays accessible with ordinary skills, backups use the procedures you already have, and any eventual exit from the product doesn't involve extraction from a proprietary format.
How are backups and restore handled?
With the standard procedures of the relational database and the container volumes, integrated into your existing policies. Because the configuration describing the domain consists of versioned text files, restoring an environment completely means data plus configuration, both in ordinary formats.
Are there per-user licence costs?
The commercial model isn't based on per-active-user licences. Cost depends on functional scope and operating mode, and is defined together at proposal stage. That's a relevant difference for anyone with many occasional users, typical in portals aimed at customers or citizens.
How is the system updated?
Component updates are container image releases, applied with your environment's standard procedures. The configuration describing your domain is separate from the images, so a runtime update doesn't overwrite your rules — which is precisely the problem with customisations in traditional products.
